Does sam smith gay
Being a semi-closeted Indian gay male (Out to most of my friends but not to family), I have to be a silent witness to a lot of homophobic opinions. In due course of period I have realised that trying to point out the irrationality of their opinions is usually not a astute decision in these situations as reason is rarely the basis of said opinions. Therefore, I have learnt to silently observe, which in turn has provided me with many hilarious instances of inconsistency in their opinions.
My parents (who once confused sleep over my support of “anti-social and unnatural behaviour”, after I informed them that I was going to the Pride Parade) and I, once went to a new year’s family gathering where my parents were rejoicing among other like-minded relatives. The wine was flowing as my usually decorous aunts and uncles started dancing to the music. They were thoroughly enjoying themselves, each member throwing in options for the songs to be played. My mother suggested Elton John. As the song played they knew every word and were noticeably enjoying themselves. This got me wondering about how my homophobic mother was such a fan of Elton John in spite of his very visible ‘gayne

It was the year 2014 when Sam Smith rose to fame for their pop ballads Stay With Me and I’m Not The Only One. They were suddenly everywhere: their melody was vulnerable, passionate and raw, making the coldest of people feel something.
In a powerful move, Smith came out as same-sex attracted in the same year, right after the discharge of their debut album In The Lonely Hour. They didn’t want their sexuality to be the subject of speculation, or leave it up to rumour. After seeing preceding queer pop stars such as George Michael leave through the same guesswork for years, Smith had no intention to experience through it too.
Despite entity publicly out, references to Smith’s queerness in their first album were not many and far between — you only found them if you knew where to look.
Slowly, this began to change.
In their follow-up record The Thrill of It All, the singer began to be more explicit in references to their sexuality, singing to and about men openly, with tracks like HIM and Pray.

Conservatives are upset at Sam Smith because their music video and tour performances are seemingly too sexual. We talk about this backlash, how society views cis, thin, straight bodies and how it demonises marginalised people who are not afraid to search their gender and sexuality without shame.
Sam Smith Music Video Receives Backlash
In January 2023, non-binary singer Sam Smith received backlash for their music video. Many conservatives deemed it too sexual and explicit, especially for a younger audience. Smith’s video ‘I’m Not Here To Make Friends’ showcases the singer in lingerie, wearing corsets, and other traditionally feminine clothing. Immediately after the video dropped, conservatives pushed for an age restriction on YouTube.
They accused Sam Smith of shoving their queer and gender non-conforming identity down everyone’s face. Many also started misgendering them. Despite this criticism, Smith tweeted a picture of them dressed in a beautiful and extravagant feathered black gown. The tweet reads: Never too much.
This misguided and unnecessary concern for ch
