This figures to be a monumental week for queer rights in the Merged States, as the Supreme Court will review the issue of same-sex marriage for the first time.

And while the matter plays out on the nation’s largest legal stage over the next few weeks, it may also form headlines on the nation’s largest sporting stage, the NFL.

Mike Freeman of CBS Sports wrote Monday that sources have told him that a gay NFL player is considering coming out over the next few months:

“Based on interviews over the past several weeks with current and former players, I’m told that a current queer NFL player is strongly considering coming out publicly within the next not many months – and after doing so, the player would attempt to proceed his career.”

Interestingly, sources told Freeman that the player’s concern is not with the reaction of his teammates or other NFL players. Rather, he is more worried about how fans will take the news. And according to free agent lineb

Las Vegas Raiders defensive end Carl Nassib saw a surge in popularity after coming out as the NFL's first openly lgbtq+ player. His recent transcendent fame has even pushed his jersey to the top of the charts league's retail charts. 

Nassib has the best-selling jersey on digital sports retailer Fanatics, dating assist to his announcement on Monday, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

 

Nassib's surging jersey sales are the latest examples of the overwhelming support he's received from the NFL community. 

Several high-profile players across the league have publicly expressed their support for Nassib and his decision to approach out, including Recent York Giants running back Saquon Barkley, Arizona Cardinals defensive end JJ Watt, and former Recent England Patriots spacious receiver Julian Edelman. 

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell even made a public statement praising Nassib and said the league would match his donation of $100,000 to The Trevor Proposal, a leading Diverse charity aimed at combatting the steep rates of suicide among queer kids and young adults.

I know this can be a dicey subject for some, as they don't desire to believe their 'ICONS' can be gay! But I will bear their wrath and proceed with my 'selection.': Tom Brady (Bi), Aaron Rodgers; Wes Welker(?),JJ Watt (just got married to a woman),Julian Elderman; Danny Amendola, Brian Cushing, Christian McCaffrey (currently 'involved' with a 'beard')--on the fence-Rob Gronkowski. So, per OP,

Carl Nassib has the full support of many current and former NFL stars after coming out as gay Monday.

The Las Vegas Raiders defensive lineman made the announcement in an Instagram video to become the first active NFL player to publicly reveal he's same-sex attracted, per Outsports.

Nassib also announced he's donating $100,000 to the Trevor Project, a suicide prevention and crisis intervention company that serves LGBTQ youth.

Former New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman celebrated Nassib Monday on Twitter for his courageous announcement and generous donation.

Several current and former NFL stars -- including fellow Penn Mention alum Saquon Barkley, J.J. Watt, and Warren Moon -- joined Edelman in showing their help for Nassib on Twitter.

Michael Sam, who came out as gay prior to the 2014 NFL Draft but never appeared in an NFL game, also thanked Nassib for going public with his decision.

Nassib stressed the importance of acceptance and awareness for the male lover community in his video, and in a follow-up Instagram share cited a research that found that "all it takes is one accepting adult to diminish the risk of an LGBTQ kid attempting suicide by 40%."
