If you don’t hold the budget for that summer participate, consider camping, glamping, or ranching for a taste of the great outdoors this Summer.

You can make a reservation or see into membership at several gay campgrounds across the U.S. From clothing-optional to female-friendly, we pulled together a compact list of queer campgrounds you may want to think about visiting. Yes, we recognize there are probably several more queer-welcoming campgrounds, but these are just a few thought-starters and ideas for Queer travelers.


Campit Outdoor Resort (Fennville, MI)

This campground is located close Saugatuck and Douglas, Michigan, which are two towns that made our list of 22 Compact LGBTQ+-Friendly Cities in the U.S. So, that bodes successfully for queer campers looking to remain here! The Pines is a clothing-optional lgbtq+ campground for grown-up men, 21+. Located on 60 acres of rural timberland in south-central Illinois, approximately 10 miles from the Interstate.

Amenities include: primitive tent sites (no electric), RV sites with 30/50 electric, dump station, porta potties and outdoor showers. Swimming pool with sun deck, hot tub, time passes. All sites are generously spaced.

Come celebrate Pride in the Woods!

Join us on Thursday for Rainbow Camp, or enter earlier for Rainbow Camp Plus!

  • Wednesday Night: Enjoy a meal, evening social time, and campfire with s’mores. We’ll also have optional late-night stargazing.
  • Thursday: Rainbow Camp is a day of outdoor playfulness with water games, canoeing, fishing, optional horseback riding, archery, crafts, pontoon rides, and more. We finish the day with a great dinner as the light sets over the lake.

Rainbow Camp was started for lesbian, homosexual, bisexual, trans, and queer students, singles, couples and families. Allies are always welcome, too.

Registration is open!

  • Cost for Wednesday & Thursday:
    • Adult = $120
    • Ages 12-17 = $100
    • 11 & Under = $75
  • Cost for Thursday Only:
    • Adult = $80
    • Ages 12-17 = $65
    • 11 & Under = $45

*Optional horseback riding:

  • Trail Ride (1 hour) = $25
  • Arena Ride (30 minutes) = $20

Many United Church of Christ congregations in the Illinois South Conference offer to remunerate a portion of the camp fee for their members.  Check with your church!
