15 ways to thank Berlin without going to Berghain

By Emen8, updated 2 years ago in Travel and party / Overseas

From a hotel with its own marble Turkish hammam to Berlin’s kinkiest gay sex club, we give you 15 left of centre things to do and see in Berlin

Whether you’re a Berlin novice or seasoned regular, the key to making the most of Germany’s dynamic capital is immersing yourself in its many left-of-centre activities and venues on offer. By all means, visit the more established tourist venues if you must, but be sure to dig a little deeper with a visit to one of these lesser-known destinations. A trip to Berlin should be anything but vanilla – this is Europe’s sex capital and kink epicentre, so get friendly with the locals, go to pound town like there’s no tomorrow and party fond of it’s going out of fashion.

Word to the wise: Berlin’s more hard-core gay sex scene sometimes jokingly refers to the city as Barelin – but where there’s humour, there’s also truth. So go prepared with condoms and PrEP.

A Gay guide to Berlin’s Fetish Bars, Clubs, Shops & playrooms

Master Phil

Also, test out events and conferences (coming soon)

Berlin, often known as the Mecca for Gay BDSM and Leather. Most of the bars and clubs are focused around Motzstrasse (by Uban Nollendorfplatz). It is a very liberal area and it is very usual to witness people wearing leather and fetish anytime during the evening (including myself).

Google Maps

As part of this project, I created a google guide that listed all the maps that you can access here

Woof

My favourite exclude around the Motzrasse area. Always kind and welcoming. Wonderful place to move to.

Check out the Woof Bar

Cigar Lounge

The first Friday of every month at the Pussy Meower Lounge. A kind night with men and cigars and their admirers.

Check out Berlin Cigar Men

What else is there?

  • Scheune: One of the original fetish bars – I contain not used it much for no real reason – so cannot comment But have enjoyed myself there the last view times I went.
  • Prinzknecht: Nice bar to gather up with people early evening. During big events such as Folsom it is one of the main hangouts. I have always found the staff a little unwelco

Berlin has earned its stripes as one of the great queer capitals of the world, with a huge LGBTQ+ community, one-of-a-kind queer bars and an attitude to life that encourages inhabitants to be whoever they please. Over time, this has lent itself to a ton of fantastic club nights, bars and saunas, and new venues are popping up all the time.

Berlin is a city that is always moving forward, often at a lightning pace. Things go so quickly, it can be hard to keep up with. But we’ve got you covered. Our Berlin writer Nathan Ma knows this city like the back of his hand, and has handpicked the best Homosexual spots all over the metropolis for cocktails, dancing and a lot of queer joy. Here’s our picks of the best.
